Fragment „Oraşul în mantie purpurie“, de Aslı Erdoğan
Editura Polirom anunţă apariţia în librării a unui nou volum semnat de scriitoarea turcă Aslı Erdoğan, romanul „Oraşul în mantie purpurie“, în traducerea, din limba germană, a Gabriellei Eftimie. Autoarea va fi prezentă anul acesta la cea de-a VII-a ediţie a Festivalului Internaţional de Literatură şi Traducere Iaşi (FILIT), care va avea loc între 2 şi 6 octombrie. „Adevărul“ prezintă în premieră, un fragment din „Oraşul în mantie purpurie“.

Translation and Human Rights
This week concludes Women in Translation Month, established in 2014 by critic Meytal Radzinski to highlight the gender disparities of which authors are translated into English from their original languages. In the United States, under 3% of traditionally published books each year are translations from other languages, and only 30% of these are books by women authors. As I found out when I attended a Women in Translation reading at McNally-Jackson Bookstore last week, whether or not an author is translated isn’t just a matter of money and prestige. For some writers, it can have life and death consequences.

Turkish author Aslı Erdoğan wins ‘courageous writer at risk’ award
Turkish writer Aslı Erdoğan has won the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation’s 2019 Disturbing the Peace Award to a Courageous Writer at Risk.
The foundation, which was set up in honour of the late Czech dissident turned statesman, describes the award as for “writers who share President Vaclav Havel’s passionate commitment to human rights and have suffered unjust persecution for their beliefs”.
