Asli Erdogan ist eine starke Frau. „Sie ist ungeheuer mutig“, sagte die Sozialwissenschaftlerin Elisabeth Abendroth, die sich seit Jahrzehnten für die Menschenrechte engagiert und die Laudatio auf die Preisträgerin hielt. Denn Erdogan schreibt und publiziert – auch solche Dinge, „Wahrheiten“, wie Abendroth es nennt, die die Regierung in der Türkei nicht gut heißt. Sie schreibt über Unterdrückung, Folter, Menschenrechtsverletzungen. Im August 2016 ist Asli Erdogan deswegen inhaftiert worden. 132 Tage musste sie im Gefängnis verbringen, bevor ihre Freisetzung erwirkt werden und sie aus der Türkei ausreisen konnte. Seit einigen Wochen lebt die Autorin in Frankfurt, im Exil sozusagen.
Bir süre önce yurt dışına çıkış yasağı kaldırılan Aslı Erdoğan, denemelerinden bir seçkiden oluşan “Artık Sessizlik Bile Senin Değil” adlı yeni kitabının “Neppure il silenzio é piu tuo” adıyla İtalyancaya çevrilmesine ilişkin Roma’daki bir etkinliğe katıldı.
Hafta başında “Uluslararası Kurgu” dalında İtalya’da Vincenzo Padula Ödülü de alan Erdoğan, Piu Libri Piu Liberi (Daha Çok Kitap Daha Çok Özgürlük) Yayıncılık Fuarı’nda “İsyan etmek, direnmek, yazmak” adlı söyleşide konuştu.

Erdoğan, a journalist and human-rights activist, was arrested and detained in Turkey for four months after the failed coup attempt of July 2016. The stories in this collection, which won Turkey’s Sait Faik Short Story Award, revolve around women facing isolation, exile and imprisonment. In The Morning Visitor, a man visits a woman in a boardinghouse for migrants in a northern city; his presence reminds her, “That dark cell, it follows me wherever I go.” Wooden Birds centres on Filiz, an asthmatic political refugee who is “extremely gloomy, withdrawn, and wounded.” She is one of six patients in a hospital lung ward – three foreigners, three Germans – allowed a surreal outside visit.
